In the spring of 2025, Fenix will open its doors. Fenix takes you on a journey through contemporary art, history, stories, and flavors, located at the very crossroads of departure and arrival. This is the site where millions of Europeans set sail and just as many people from around the globe arrived. Team Fenix is creating the world’s first museum that, through a collection of contemporary art, shows that migration is a timeless phenomenon.

Where people travel, flavors, traditions, and recipes travel with them. Food is indispensable when telling stories about migration. Fenix offers visitors culinary experiences inspired by the cuisines of those who arrived in and departed from Rotterdam.

  • The museum café in the entrance area: the vibrant heart of the museum with an extensive daytime menu.
  • The bakery: an artisanal bakery with a deli.
  • Espresso bar on the first floor: enjoy coffee with a panoramic view of the Maas River.
  • Gelateria, located on the corner of the building: an authentic Italian ice cream parlor at the foot of the Rijnhaven Bridge.
  • Kitchen on the Square: a space where visitors encounter culinary traditions and cuisines from around the world, prepared by diverse people and communities from Rotterdam.
  • A restaurant focused on dinner: where talented chefs share their migration stories through their food.
  • Staff restaurant: for all colleagues working at Fenix.
  • Catering: the hospitality team provides catering for cultural and corporate events held at Fenix.

Your team

At Fenix, you’ll work in a diverse and passionate team where culture, migration, and hospitality come together. Together, you’ll translate stories from around the world into unique culinary and hospitable experiences. Your team is made up of individuals with diverse talents, all contributing to Fenix’s mission and Vermaat’s high standards.

Your job

As a Head chef at Fenix, Rotterdam, you are responsible for the culinary leadership of the kitchen. You lead the kitchen team, ensuring the development and preparation of high-quality dishes that meet our standards. You oversee the quality, presentation, and taste of every dish leaving the kitchen, maintaining an efficient and organized work environment.

You are responsible for menu creation, ingredient sourcing, and managing food costs. Additionally, you ensure that hygiene and safety regulations in the kitchen are strictly followed. You inspire and motivate the team to consistently deliver quality, no matter the pressure or circumstances.

As head chef, you work closely with management to develop new culinary concepts and continually enhance the guest experience. Your creativity, leadership skills, and passion for cooking keep our kitchen performing at a high level.

Your ingredients

  • You have completed a culinary education at the vocational (MBO) level, with at least three years of kitchen experience.
  • You have experience leading a kitchen team.
  • You possess strong knowledge of allergies, dietary preferences, food trends, and preparation times, and you know how to apply this knowledge effectively in practice.
  • You are familiar with regulations related to HACCP, occupational health (Arbo), and safety.
  • You keep up with developments in the world of food and drink and are eager to bring these innovations into your kitchen.
